Questions about – Season Six
Will there be a sixth season?
It’s been over three years since we finished work on season five, and CBBC haven’t shown any sign of interest in commissioning more episodes. So effectively, no, Wolfblood has been cancelled and there won’t be another season.
Could there be another season at some point in the future?
In theory? Yes, of course. CBBC could decide to ask for another season at any time. But right now, they show no signs of doing so…

When will season five be on television?
In the UK, from 27th February 2017 to 1st May 2017. Episodes are available on iPlayer for a month after transmission.
Who’s writing season five?
Wolfblood veterans Matt Sinclair and Neil Jones will be returning, and we’ll be joined by new arrivals Victoria Asare-Archer, Ed Aldridge, and Simon Underwood. Additionally, actress and writer Michelle Gayle (who plays Imara) will be writing an episode.
I’ll be writing four episodes, and everyone else one each, giving us a ten episode season this year.
Who’s in the cast for season five?
As for season four, our lead characters will be Jana, TJ, Matei, Emilia, Selina and Katrina. Plus many other familiar faces, of course…
Will Maddy, Rhydian, Shannon and Tom return to season five?
The actors who played those roles are too busy to return right now – they’re either studying, or acting in other projects. They’ll always be a huge part of our Wolfblood universe, and who knows, they might return at some point… But not for the fifth season.
Why don’t you just cast new actors and actress to play those characters?
We don’t recast major roles. That’s never convincing, and it’s insulting to the original cast as well as the new cast. Actors aren’t interchangeable objects that can be swapped like light bulbs.
We have occasionally recast very minor roles when it was unavoidable (usually because an actor became unavailable at very short notice), but we would never do it with a major role.
What about Maddy, Rhydian, Shannon and Tom – can we find out what’s happening to them?
CBBC have produced a terrific webcomic, by Rik Hoskin & Tom Waterhouse, which bridges the gap between seasons 3 and 4 and tells you what Maddy, Rhydian, Tom and Shannon are up to ‘offscreen’. Beyond that… to be honest, we’re deliberately not making any decisions about where the characters go and what they do next. There’s always the possibility that there will be spin-off books, or even a movie – and if those happen, whoever’s writing them will want a free hand to decide what those characters are doing with their lives.
Questions about: where and when you can see Wolfblood
I live in [insert name of country], when will I be able to see Wolfblood on TV or on Netflix?
Unfortunately, there’s no point in contacting me to ask about transmission dates for your country, because I don’t get involved with any of that. The TV channel showing Wolfblood makes those decisions, not me. I often don’t know the show’s on in any given country until after it’s begun showing.
If you know which channel it’s going to be on in your country (in many countries, it will be the Disney Channel), contact that channel directly, and they should be able to give you an answer.
If you’re watching on Netflix, then obviously, contact Netflix. (Please note, Wolfblood is only available on US Netflix, not Netflix in the UK.)
And of course, the more people who contact the channel about Wolfblood, thus proving it has lots of fans, the more likely they are to keep showing it!
Where can I watch Wolfblood online?
If you live in the UK, you can watch episodes on the BBC’s iPlayer service. They’re usually available for a month after transmission (and when the show is repeated, they go back onto iPlayer for a month).
You can now buy seasons 3 to 5 for download from the BBC Store https://store.bbc.com/wolfblood . Presumably seasons 1 & 2 will also be available at some point (but you’ll need to contact BBC Store, not me, with any enquiries about that).
If you live outside the UK, I’m afraid iPlayer won’t work for you, and you’ll have to wait for the show to be shown by your local broadcaster. In the US, individual episodes are available to buy on iTunes, and are also on US Netflix.
Any Wolfblood episodes copied to YouTube or similar services will be removed and the poster’s account terminated, so be sensible, don’t take the risk…
But why shouldn’t I watch pirated copes of Wolfblood online? No harm done, right?
Wrong. Completely and utterly wrong.
In order to make future seasons of Wolfblood, we need the money that Disney and other broadcasters pay us for the rights to show the current seasons. If people can watch pirated copies on the web, they won’t watch it when it’s on TV, meaning the viewing figures go down and the broadcasters won’t buy it any more – so there’ll be no more money for us to make new episodes. And that means no more Wolfblood, ever.
Even if you claim you’re going to watch the show online and when it’s on TV, the availability of pirated copies will put broadcasters off buying those seasons in the first place. No broadcaster wants to pay money for something that’s already been splashed all over the internet.
So, if you actually care about Wolfblood, you should be avoiding people who illegally post it on the internet, not supporting them.
What about the motion comic on the CBBC website? It says I can only read it if I live in the UK.

Which awards has Wolfblood been nominated for/ won?
Wolfblood won the Royal Television Society award for Best Children’s Drama in 2013 (and was nominated again in 2014 and 2015). At the Children’s BAFTAs, Bobby Lockwood won Best Performer in 2013, and I won Best Writer in 2014.
It has also been nominated for two RTS North-East awards, a Broadcast award, the Prix Jeunesse, a Banff Television Festival award and five other Children’s BAFTAs in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The season three writing team won the Children’s Writing award at the British Screenwriters Awards 2015.
What is the theme song from Wolfblood? Can I buy the soundtrack?
Seasons 1-3: it’s A Promise That I Keep, music by Andy Price, lyrics by Klause White, performed by Lisa Knapp.
Season 4-5: it’s Running With The Wolves, by Aurora. It’s due for release as a single in April 2016.
What’s the song used in [insert name of episode]?
Music is chosen by the sound editing department, who know a lot more about all kinds of music than I do! And the instrumental music in the show is written for the show by composer Andy Price. However, since 90% of music questions are about the track used in ‘Maddy Cool’ – many fans seem to think it’s Sunshine by Toni Cataldi.
How did you come up with the idea for Wolfblood, and how did it get commissioned?

Do you use real wolves when filming the show?
No. The wolves are computer-animated by our special effects company (Trixter, for seasons 1-3, and Jellyfish for season 4 and 5).
How long does it take to film a season of Wolfblood?
Usually about three months. Then there are many more months of editing, special effects, adding music…
How long does it take to film an episode of Wolfblood?
That’s hard to answer, because we don’t start at the beginning and work to the end: all the scenes in one location are filmed first, then all the scenes in another, and so on.
If we’re filming in a location – say, in the school canteen – we’ll shoot the canteen-based scenes from two or three different episodes in the same day, to save time. The most time-comsuming (and therefore expensive) part of filming is moving people and equipment from location to location, so we arrange filming so we move as little as possible.
At a guess, it takes between five and six working days to shoot an episode, depending on how many moves between locations, how many stunts, and how many complicated scenes there are.
Is there a real village called Stoneybridge? Or a real school called Bradlington High?

Where is Wolfblood filmed?
The village we use as Stoneybridge is Blanchlands, in Northumbria. The school, the woods, and most of the other locations are within a few miles of there. And city locations, such as those in season 4 and 5, are filmed in nearby Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
How do you do the yellow eyes?
Mostly contact lenses, sometimes CGI (when we actually see them change).
Are you ever going to feature vampires in Wolfblood? What about other supernatural creatures?
Definitely no vampires! Vampires bore me: they’re whiny and self-obsessed. I don’t see what they would add to the show.
At the moment, we have no plans to feature any other supernatural creatures in Wolfblood. We’d rather do one thing well than throw in all kinds of creatures and over-complicate the show.
Questions about: DVDs and merchandise
Will there be a DVD release?
At the moment, there are three sets of DVD releases:
There are UK DVDs (Region 2) of seasons one to five, available now. In the UK, you can also buy digital downloads from BBC Store.
Season 1-5 DVDs have also been released in Germany, and are available in many other countries via Amazon and other online retailers. And seasons one to five are available on DVD in the US (region 1), available from all the usual retailers.
What about merchandise?
A range of merchandise is slowly being rolled out. Here’s what’s available so far:
A one-off Wolfblood magazine was released in October 2014. You may still be able to order copies, for delivery to the UK or overseas, from http://titan.subscribeonline.co.uk/Products/totally
Wolfblood posters in several different designs are available from a number of online retailers. Google “Wolfblood poster” and you’ll get plenty of options.
A Wolfblood mug is available from gb.posters.com, and probably from elsewhere as well. There’s a 2015 calendar, and children’s pyjamas, produced by Fashion UK, available on Amazon.co.uk and elsewhere.
And inevitably, there are various items of fan-designed unofficial merchandise available on various sites.
Are there Wolfblood books?
Novelisations (book versions of the TV episodes) of seasons 1 – 4 are out now, and can be bought online and from all the normal booksellers.
Will there ever be a Wolfblood movie?
There has been some discussion of a movie, but so far, there are no firm plans for one. If that changes, I’ll update the FAQ.
Questions about: appearing in Wolfblood, writing for Wolfblood, and careers in the television industry
How can I audition to be in Wolfblood? or appear as an extra?
You need to have previous acting experience, and an agent, to have a chance of appearing in any TV show. Shooting takes place on a very tight schedule and a very limited budget, and we have to be sure that everyone we employ knows their job and can do it with the minimum of supervision. And yes, that does make life hard for young actors starting out, but we have to do what’s best for the show.
If you have an agent, they’ll know how to arrange an audition for you. And if you don’t – well, your first task is to get an agent!
And remember, acting is a long game, and setting your heart on appearing in one particular show probably isn’t wise. Concentrate on creating a career for yourself, not just getting a role on Wolfblood.
Please note – I get a lot of messages from people telling me at great length how brilliant they are and what their drama teacher says about them and how many plays they’ve been in… Sorry, but you’re telling the wrong person. I don’t make the casting decisions. That’s the job of the casting director, and I stand back and let them do their job.
How do I become an actor? And how do I get an agent? Any tips?
Obviously I’m a writer, not an actor, so I have no direct experience of this, but I asked around and this is what I was told…
Join a youth theatre or a Saturday drama class. Look for ones that put on plays, not just song-and-dance showcases. Join an amateur dramatics group: they’re often eager for younger members. Check out local colleges: film students often need actors for their short films. Basically, find any opportunity you can to perform in public.
Once you have some experience, you can invite agents to come see you perform, and they may agree to become your agent. The first few will probably say no, so keep going. There’s good advice on choosing an agent here – http://www.dramaclasses.biz/how-to-get-an-acting-agent-children
And bear in mind: in order to succeed, you need to work harder and be more dedicated than the thousands of other youngsters who also want to act. You’ve going to have to take the initiative, search for opportunities – build your career yourself, not sit around waiting for a golden opportunity to fall into your lap.
You’re also going to have to work your way up from the bottom. That means playing roles you don’t enjoy, in crummy theatres or unpaid student films, providing your own costumes and paying for your own meals. There’s precious little glamour at any level of the industry, and none whatsoever when you’re starting out! But if you’re dedicated and determined enough, you might just make it…
I live outside Britain – do I have any chance of getting a role in the series?
Honestly? That’s not going to happen. Like any other profession, you can’t just turn up in the UK and start working: you have to have the legal right to live here and work here. Unless you have UK or EU citizenship, or some other legal right to work in the UK, it would be against the law for us to cast you in the show. So you should concentrate on building an acting career in your own country.

If you’re an experienced writer with previous TV or film credits, get your agent to contact CBBC in the usual way.
If you don’t have an agent or previous experience, your best way to get noticed is via BBC Writers Room, who hold ‘open calls’ for scripts by new writers every few months. I’ve tried being polite about this, and people are ignoring it, so let me make this very clear. YOU MUST NOT SEND ME PLOT IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS, OR EVEN WOLFBLOOD FAN FICTION. EVER. If people keep doing so, I will have to close down this site.
Writers and production companies have to be very careful that they don’t lay themselves open to accusations of stealing ideas. There have been cases with other shows where fans have sued the show for ‘stealing’ ideas from their fan fiction, or from episode ideas they’ve sent in without being asked. The best defence we have have against that is never to read any ideas submitted by anyone outside the show.
So none of us are allowed to read any suggestions, ideas, theories, fan fiction, or anything related to Wolfblood. It doesn’t matter if you promise not to sue – we still can’t read it. It doesn’t matter if you say it’s just for fun – we still can’t read it. It doesn’t matter what you say – we still can’t read it! So please don’t send anything, via this blog or anywhere else.
Questions about: fan mail, contacting the cast
Where can I send fan mail to the cast?
If you send it to [Actor’s name], Wolfblood, CBBC, Bridge House, BBC MediaCity UK, Salford, M50 2QH, it will be passed on to them from there. Alternatively, you could probably find out their agent on Google and send it to the agent’s office – it might well reach them faster that way.
Can you pass on a message to the cast for me?
Unfortunately not, because of the sheer number of people who ask. I get asked this 250 – 300 times a year, and not only would I never remember all those messages, it would take days for me to recite them all to the cast!
So how can I contact the cast?
Apart from the fan mail address, above? They’re all on Twitter, some have Instagram accounts… You’ll probably be able to find them on various social media.
Questions about: previous episodes, characters and backstory
Can wolfbloods have human children, and vice versa? What if a wolfblood and a human have children together?
Being a wolfblood is genetic, so if a wolfblood and a human had children together, the child would either inherit the wolfblood gene and be a wolfblood, or inherit the human gene and be human. And theoretically, I suppose a gene could lie dormant and then manifest in a future generation, so in theory, someone could unexpectedly have a wolfblood child…
What happens to the characters’ clothes when they transform?
CBBC rules forbid us to show the characters naked, or even imply that they’re naked offscreen. So we have to pretend that the clothes somehow vanish with them and then reappear. Of course it makes no logical sense, really, but we have no other option.
In the third season episode “The Dark Of The Rune”, all Wolfbloods in the world fall into a coma due to a mysterious comet. Our heroes find a solution – but what about Maddy and her parents in Canada, and all the other Wolfbloods worldwide? What happened to them?
I didn’t write that episode, but my understanding is that the solution our characters find puts a kind of ‘shield’ around the comet, cutting off its effects all across the planet. So basically, everyone else woke up at the same time Rhydian and Jana did.
Do you write differently for children than for adults? Do you ever think “Oh, we can’t do that in a children’s show”?
Not really, no. Any story you can tell to adults, you can tell to children. You just tell it a little differently. Over the years, we’ve dealt with parental abandonment, bullying, emotional abuse within families, the care system, and Shannon being wrongly sent to a psychiatrist – all pretty serious topics. it’s a just a question of how you present the subject within the story.
How did Maddy’s parents meet? And where do you imagine other wolfbloods meeting each other in general?
I would think settled Wolfbloods find ways to meet up – secret events, perhaps? Every community has its big events and rituals. As for how Daniel and Emma met… well, maybe one day we’ll find out!
Do you believe in people transforming into wolves/ werewolves in real life?
I believe in things we have evidence for, and so far, there’s no evidence for werewolves or anything like them. However, the idea is a great way to explore the dark side that we all have, and how we choose to deal with it…
I’ve noticed that Maddy and other characters often say ‘us’ instead of ‘me’. Is that the local dialect?
Yes, in the Northumbria/ Newcastle area, it’s perfectly normal to use ‘us’ instead of ‘me’.
What’s the language spoken by the wild wolfbloods?
That’s Welsh. This particular wild pack came originally from Wales, but were disturbed by human activity and relocated somewhere north of Stoneybridge (probably the Highlands of Scotland, but wild Wolfbloods aren’t exactly experts in geography…)
What’s your favourite episode? Your favourite character?
People keep asking me these questions, and weirdly, they’re impossible to answer. When you write something, no part of it, no individual character, is your favourite. You love every part of it for different reasons.
Which character is most like you?
None of the characters is exactly like me, but I suppose the closest to me as a teenager is Shannon…

What are the do’s and don’ts for leaving questions here?
– DO state your question clearly and simply. I get a lot of vague questions like “When will it show here?” (“It” being which season? “Here” being where?) So try to state your question clearly and briefly…
– DO be realistic about whether I can actually do what you’re asking (let alone whether I should!) I’ve had people ask me to get them an acting agent, help them direct their first movie, help them get their novel published, and even get them a date with a member of the cast – none of which I can do!

Its sad to hear they canceled the show because you are an amazing writer and the show is awesome. I am aware that the show has been canceled but do you think there is a way to change there minds???? When you wrote the scripts where did you get the inspiration from? Personally wolfblood has made an impact on my life and has inspired me to get into film making and script writing but it all seems very hard so could you enlighten me on how you become one?
Also would you ever be on the set of wolfblood when they filmed or were you mostly at home.

As for how to become a writer: how people break in varies from person to person. Essentially, spend time writing and developing your skills, then start trying to get an agent and get something made. Some advice here https://debbiemoon.wordpress.com/new-to-screenwriting/, and browsing sites like Go Into the Story and BBC WritersRoom will give you a lot more sense of how people get started.
TV shows are always written by a team of people (unless the season is very short) – there isn’t time for one person to write 12 or 13 episodes, and anyway, more writers means more good ideas!

I was wondering if there was a major change in writing/producing after the first 2 seasons. As the show seemed to fall of a cliff from there.

Wow the show wolfblood is amazing and I’m so sad to see it not being produced any more I literally just found out about a week ago and seen all the seasons I found it on hulu. I don’t know what to say I’m 23 and it was interesting. It so entertaining I have no other words to say than Thank you. I have no clue what to do now. Hi from America. Hi Debbie I’ve started to binge watch the Wolfblood series again and it brings back so much nostalgia. I’m currently on season 2 and I find it has such a good storyline and I love the original cast as well. It so sad that wolfblood was cancelled they just don’t realise how good it was and how it warmed people’s hearts a lot. I had like a dream last night about there was a Season 6 and Maddy, Rhydian, Tom, Shannon and Jana were all there and how they’d all grown up and reunited. But I know that it will never happen :(. Berwyn was an accountant, and wouldn’t have had much to do with visiting Wolfbloods, but it’s possible they bumped into each other, yes.

Funny enough I like a lot of British/Canadian drama series. I’m from the US. Im an adult and have enjoyed shows like Orphan Black and Lost Girl. I borrowed Wolfblood from the library all 5 seasons at once without realizing it was more for early teens but I must say it was one of my favorite shows. It kept me in suspense like the other shows mentioned. I finished all 5 seasons in 5 days. I’m sure you have an adult fanbase as well even if most wont admit it. But the show was amazing. Would like to see more like this.

It’s been quite a while since I like spammed you on here! Always been a wolfblood lover at heart- that show was my life for five years to the point my parents were thinking about getting professional health due to my obsession (I pointed out I felt like Shannon in wolfsbane lol) but I guess when you are searching for an identity and feel lost in a world and you see belonging and people being part of something and seeing a pack- having secrets- it reflected my mental health and my sexuality- it helped me accept my sexuality and that honestly saved my life. I have always felt different and outsider like rhydian lol so I connected with it in so many ways xx (plus my little 14 year old gay heart fell effortlessly in love with Leona Vaughn and Aimee kelly that it was fated for me to be obsessed 😂)
I haven’t watched WB for nearly two years. I always associate it with my past. Wolfblood was such an intense time like I don’t talk sbout it anymore. I took down hundreds of printed out pictures I found from google that were taped to my wall and pushed my merch to one side… I feel ashamed and like I bury the four years of obsessing because it meant so much to me I don’t wanna accept it was real if that makes sense? After a while I got distracted tho heeh- I mean I fell in love with sarah Michelle gellar on scooby doo (I have a younger sister and who doesn’t love scooby doo?!) and decided to look into buffy. Wolfblood is the teen angst version of it I feel! It is a trademark in TV and the character development is just as good as spikes from dark and cool vampire to a one that realises he has some sort of soul and love for a slayer hehe.
Wolfblood and buffy are my biggest loves (and tv show bones which has angel in it weirdly enough!) because of the depth and richness and beauty of tv.

I think writers get inspiration somewhere and I’m lucky enough to get it from your show! Like not the plot lines but to see the nature of relationships and how rounded characters can be with is fantastic!
I defo agree- teenage life is sbout finding yourself in an adult world and when you are finding that so many people feel like a misfit- waiting to find their group and belonging of some sort in the world 🙂
I cannot speak of your experiences and feelings but I am very isolated where I live (in the moors ironically enough haha) so identity was stressed even more when I grew up and WB taught me you never stop learning or finding yourself… for me it was hard being gay growing up as although times were changing for the better even now there is still this reinforced heteronormativity and like WBs, finding others like you is where you feel safe and can be who you are without hate- but also humans and WBs- like everyone can live together and no one is as powerful- same with sexualities- WB shows equality creates peace! (Never realised how political WB actually was haha). I think that’s why WB is so appealing- it’s a beautifully crafted world you can escape into where you feel like you belong because the real world seems scary and unknown yet it teaches you that’s its okay to be afraid.. it’s okay to be you (in a way the viewer is like Aran or Ceri hehe). Even now I prefer books and films to reality because the adult world feels so much bigger!
Wow, I noticed how many comments recently have started with (or included somewhere) that they were returning on the FAQ to talk to you as old fans who used to come by, and I had to be a part of this flood of reminiscers because I miss wolfblood a lot. And I used to be here a lot XD Since I last posted here, I’ve showed my boyfriend the show, and he loved it! He even said he was tempted to watch it without me, but I told him he had to wait to watch it together. He got to season 3 before getting sad that Maddy left and pulled away from it a little. I haven’t had the heart to tell him Aimee Kelly’s decision yet, I think it’d make him really sad.
My Wolfblood roleplay/creative writing forum is still up and running too; I didn’t know if you’d like to hear that or would find it mundane information but I wanted to say it just in case. I wish some of these old fans of the show from here would join and write with me as some of them seem like they miss the show just as much as I do. The forum is quiet, and not many members are around any more, but I really want it to be alive with fans of the show as much as ever. So I hope nobody here has ever come across it and decided against it because it’s been quiet and inactive, when I’m just as passionate about making it last now as I was when I started it. Many of the original members were just a friend of a member who had watched the show, rather than viewers, and I really hope some more lovers of the show find us soon.
Sorry, that did get off topic. I just wanted to tell you that my forum is still going and that my boyfriend also watched the show, and despite being the type of person who you’d probably assume wouldn’t like it, (he’s older than the target age like I am and thought it was such a childish show to watch when I first convinced him to try it) nobody expected him to enjoy it, least of all himself, but he absolutely adored it. I think that’s the magic of wolfblood, that it’s so much more than it promises to be. It relates to the real world in so many ways and is so much more than a show for teenagers. I do miss the show a lot, and I just wanted to post again to let you know that I’m still a massive fan of your work 🙂

Thank you so much for creating Wolfblood i stumbled across the trailer for the first series on cbbc after watching another programme and i love anything to do with wolves/werewolves so i had to try it and i was not disappointed 🙂
I do fall into the category of adult fan and i am not ashamed to admit it the writing was amazing and the issues that were dealt with speak to a lot of people, we all feel like we dont fit in (like myself) or wish we could fit in.
I was absolutely gutted to hear wolfblood would not get a series 6 as the last episode of series 5 held so much potential to show how humans and wolfbloods would work and interact with each other and how people could tap into their wolf self.
I hold out some hope that wolfblood will be picked up (we can dream) maybe a few years down the line and even with a different cast and new characters until then i rewatch my dvds and read the books 🙂
Is there any plan to release series 5 as a novelisation to complete the set?

Permission or not, I simply wouldn’t be able to spend months writing something that I’m not getting paid for. How would I pay my bills – and what about all the other things I’ve been commissioned to write? 🙂
In television, the directors don’t get involved until the scripts are already written. I work with the producers and script editors instead, and of course the other writers, exchanging ideas and making the show as good as we can.
I don’t usually plan what will happen in a season until it’s commissioned, so no, I haven’t given it any real thought. Obviously I would follow up on the hints in the final scene, but beyond that…
What were the hints in the last scene of Season 5? I have watched the last episode but I’m just curious.

As I say in the FAQ, all the instrumental music was written specifically for the series by our composer, Andy Price. So that piece probably doesn’t have a name as such…
In season 5, did the chip that was placed into Wolfbloods suppress their wolf form, or did it remove the wolf after a certain number of days, similar to the de-wolfer that Kincaid made?
Also, if Meinir had not left Segolia and continued Dr., Whitewood’s treatments, would she have kept her wolf or still lost it?
All 5 seasons were fantastic and with each season, the storylines just got better and better. It’s a pity that CBBC didn’t allow it to go any further. Thanks for a great series.

At the beginning of Season 5, Before TJ was going to go meet with Hartington later that night, I recall TJ talking to Selena about what could possible go wrong, and I remember her saying “Romania” to him in the conversation. When she said that, I thought she was indicating that TJ might get himself sent to Romania if Segolia found out what he was up to..

After two years, you can assume that a show’s cancelled. The cast and creatives have moved on. So unless it was a total reboot (which is possible, but there are no plans for it at the moment…)

If you look around this site, you’ll find a section called “new to writing?” which has lots of advice. Other than that, my advice is: be determined, and write only stories that you love.
Books: there are the novelisations (episodes in book form), but no other Wolfblood books.

Any Wolfblood episodes on YouTube are pirated episodes, there illegally. CBBC will have them removed as soon as they can.

Life in the wild is dangerous, alas, so I think we can assume that something happened to their parents. They’re not twins, but I actually can’t find their ages in my files: maybe eleven and ten? Approximately?

I would for you to be honest with me if you were to make a season 6 would you bring it back to the original 4 make character or carry with story as it is and somehow incorporate rhydian, maddy, shannon and tom back into the fold.
If Wolfblood ever did come back, it would have an entirely new cast. The ‘city pack’ actors are in their early to mid-twenties, and the season one cast in their late twenties and early thirties. There’s no way they could play schoolchildren now.
Does Maddy ever come back in to Wolfblood?

I think Jana’s motivations in season four are pretty clear from the episodes…
As I explain in the FAQ, the actress who played Maddy chose to leave at the end of season two, so we had to write the character out.

Obviously we spent a lot of time studying how wolves behave, and finding ways for humans to express that. The cast went on a trip to a wolf sanctuary, to observe wolves in semi-wild conditions, too…
Hello! I love your show! I’ve been watching it since I was nine, I am currently thirteen. Thanks to your show, Bobby Lockwood was my first celebrity crush :). As a younger kid, I just thought of your show as a fantasy series with no depth, really, but as I grew up, from time to time, I thought of certain scenes in the show and assumed the “message” of the show. That is when I started to watch it all over again. I found myself in some of the characters. The series has helped me be whom I wanted to be, it has helped me to be myself.
But, of course, as any fan, I have questions.
How come in the first episode Maddy recognised that Rhydian was a wolfblood, but Rhydian didn’t? Was it because Rhydian hasn’t been raised in an environment where there were also wolfbloods, thus Rhydian not developing his abilities?
I aspire to be a writer someday, to become known for making inspiring books, stories, and novels, but I know it would be hard since I live in the Balkans. You and J.K. Rowling are my biggest role models. Keep up the good work! 🙂

Can I ask what made you think of getting Tom and Kay together? At first I thought the ship was a bit odd and random but I now love them !!
Mostly, it was the fact that it was unexpected. And that it wasn’t an earth-shattering soulmate romance. Because sometimes you go out with someone for a while and it doesn’t work out, but you have fun – and actually that’s okay…

So, a few days ago I saw this thing on my friend’s story and it was a picture of the wolfblood logo and I saw Maddy on it I got curious! So while in quarantine I have been binge watching the entire series, further up you said that maybe in the future you may reboot wolfblood and make a new series, it’s nearly been 2 years since the last episode, do you think you could bring it back now?? Just a quick question, at the end of season 5, we were a bit confused about Matei and Jana. It seemed at the end of season 4 that they were becoming really close, and then in season 5, it sort of ended on the note, “Jana is my alpha, that’s all she’ll ever be.”
So at the end, is that where it’s left or are they still a thing??????
We love Matei and Jana, (and Maddy and the rest) and we are desperate to know if there is a possibility they would be together in the ‘future’ of Wolfblood after the end of the season. Or did they decide, yeah we aren’t meant to be together?

Since Maddy and her family had to move to Canada, Did they have to live wild in a cave or something or did they have a house in Canada?
This has been one of my favorite seasons to watch and I am sad but also happy to see it end like it did.
Segolia arranged it all for them, so they would have been provided with a house, I think.
Do you think that after Stonybridge became a safe place for wolfbloods, that Maddy, her family and Rhydian moved back to their old house or somewhere else in Stonybridge?
I’ve deliberately not made any decisions about what happened after the show ended. If there’s ever a sequel or spin-off, that gives us free rein to make those decisions then.

I deliberately haven’t decided what happens to any of the characters after the show ends. If there is ever is a reboot/spin-off/movie/whatever, we’ll decide then.
But do you think it would be possible to continue the story even if the secret is out since that’s kind of the main part of the story

No, there’s no new Wolfblood series of any kind. Whatever the cast are talking about, it must be something else.
Older audience show: again, we need a TV channel to be interested in making it, and at the moment, no one is.
Of course you can make your own werewolf series, but I can’t authorise you to use “wolfblood” or any other term created for the show: those are copyrighted by CBBC. And anyway, why would you want to? Part of the fun of creating your own werewolf world is creating your own words, terms and rules…

As the FAQ explains, the show was cancelled three years ago, so there won’t be any more seasons. As for endings, I’m very happy with the ending we have.

Hi Debbie. I just had a question I wanted to ask surrounding Jana. Am I correct in that you posted a comment here once mentioning that you’d suggested to the heads of CBBC if you could have Jana be bi and they’d refused? I seem to recall seeing one but can’t seem to find it.
I’m actually working on some of the Wolfblood related pages over on Fanlore, documenting fan history and fan culture and whatnot, and was hoping to use it as a reference for Jana’s page.
Werewolves are a favourite of mine, hence part of the username, and I love the show a whole lot. Wish we could have had more (particularly Katrina/Robyn), but what we got was great and thank you so much for creating it (feel free to send a shout out from me to the rest of the cast and crew too for their awesome work, if you’re able to at all.)

Well, “refused” is a bit strong. They didn’t feel it was the right way to go for that particular character. (That is, it was an artistic decision rather than “no you can’t”.)

Hi Debbie. so i had a thought of something and i would like to hear your opinion about it. it obviously will not happen. it is just a fun idea, but what do you think either a live stage show. or a Musical of Wolfblood would look like.
I think Wolfblood would probably work pretty well on stage. A musical, though? That’s a bit outside my comfort zone!
I know this might sound rude but I feel this story suffered a lot from the limits of a live action show and that it would have done better in an animated environment it makes me sad to see how often shows are canceled or unable to continue because aging is a thing. Also in an animated envoirnment depending on the style it is sometimes less expensive and could be less of a commitment on the company’s part. Just my opinion also kind of a recommendation? But I think it could be continued in that kind of environment but it would be a massive change.
I reread my comment and the “it” at the end is unclear what I mean is that it would be interesting if WB could be a thing again as an animated rebute.

I just wanted to say thank you for creating this fantastic show, it truly does hold many special memories for me.
I initially watched Wolfblood with my dad when I was back in secondary school and now anytime I decide to rewatch the show I find myself bombarded with the most lovely memories from that time! The show provided a real bonding experience for myself and my father and I think we both look back on those times fondly.
Wolfblood has something special about it that no matter how many years roll by compels me to revisit the show. As I said, I first watched the show when I was quite young (I think I was about 13 or 14), which is quite the scary thought for me to think that it was quite so long ago. Now I’m 21 years old, studying for a masters degree and I’m happy to say I’ve just picked the show back up again and I’m enjoying it more than ever! I think what I love the most about the show is that it really resonates with some of my own key values. Those being the importance of family and friends and the idea that you have the freedom to choose where you want to belong. The relationship portrayed by the characters of Maddie and Rhydian also always tugs at my heart strings and I believe it is one of the highlights of the whole series.
Apologies for rambling on, I’ve been toying with the idea of posting on here for years and I just wanted to convey my sincere gratitude to you!

A season cost about £3 million to produce – which is low for a show of this kind…

If that was to happen, I’d probably be involved in some capacity, yes. I doubt any of the cast would come back – we’d want a younger cast – but who knows?
Well many of the fans miss the original cast and to be honest i think it would be easy for them to act the same and if it did come back they could do a time skip of some sort so they’re older

That counts everything, yes. The money comes from the channels [networks] producing the show, which in this case was CBBC and ZDFE, and it’s managed by the production accountant and their team.
Another question but when they turn into werwolves or start to who animated the part were there eyes change colors then zooms into the eyes then shows them transforming within (its hars to explain that sorry)
Also when there hands and neck starts to get all veiny (again bad at explaining) who animated that part? Was it all by the same animator or were both of them cgi instead of animation?
Because i know the wolves were animation.
The same special effects company did all of the special effects in the show.

Well, the casting director handled all of that, but… usually, casting director contact agencies and see who they have who fits the description of the character, and ask them to audition.

There are links to Wolfblood scripts in the FAQ. I won’t be posting the first draft of the pilot script, if that’s what you’re looking for: it bears no resemblance to the series as it it eventually evolved, so I don’t think there’s any point.
I’d love to read it to know how it evolved but that’s okay!
I just stumbled across this show while looking for supernatural shows and OMG it was one of the best decisions of my LIFE. I immediately feel in love with the whole show and characters, and when I finished it I was crying for DAYS because there isn’t more. (And because I wish I was one of them) Best show in my life. I really really really hope they make more.

First of all I just wanted to say thank you for creating a universe that I found totally encapsulating at 14 and still do now at nearly 20. I think the mixture of serious issues, great character development, amazing music (especially Andy Price’s stuff) and good acting make this one of my favourite ever tv shows. It sounds silly being at the age I am now and still feeling this way about it, maybe it’s nostalgia but I really do think that the show could have done just as well on any non-children’s tv channel as it did on CBBC and that’s just a testament to your creation. Anyway I got a bit carried away there and I did actually have a couple of questions. Do you ever think it can/will return in some way shape or form? And could you see any of the cast from series 1-3 being involved if it did? Also is there any way I could contact Andy about the music as I’d really like to be able to listen to some of what he created outside of the confines of the show (I create music myself and have found the melancholy and melody of much of it to be beautiful). Sorry for a long comment and I hope you’re doing well in the madness that is this pandemic:)
I really don’t know if the show will ever return. I certainly don’t anticipate it happening any time soon. As for who might or might not return, we’d have to see who was willing at the time.

Thank you for running this site, it’s been a pleasure to read all those interesting trivia and behind-the-scenes stuff. I want to make some sort of a tribute to Wolfblood in my book about the most groundbreaking TV shows for me. It’s like a diary to come back after years and watch it all over again with reading what I put into that. It would be great if you could find a moment to answer a few of my questions which I wish to add to my book:
1. My favorite episode is Occam’s Razor (Season 1). It was a remarkable moment to watch the main characters in their spontaneous experience of ‘adultness’ and freedom by spending the full moon without any limitations. Do you remember the process of writing that episode and making it? Who chose the beautiful Lindisfarne Island for the location?
2. What did you feel when you saw the first episode for the first time ever? What it’s like to see the world created in your mind becoming something more than just imagination?
3. Have you ever faced any serious problems with working with the big TV network, Was it a bittersweet relation when you had to agree to make changes in the script which you hadn’t wanted?
4. Did you keep anything from the set?
5. Do you find making the Wolfblood series an important thing in your life, What was the most positive aspect of that particular time of your life?
6. Do you still stay in touch with some of the cast members?

1) I chose Lindesfarne as the location: we needed an island, obviously, and it was the closest option to the usual shooting locations. The fantastic locations on the island were a real bonus, of course! Unfortunately, I wasn’t present for the filming of any of the episode, though.
2) It was a fantastic experience to see Wolfblood on a screen for the first time. Knowing I was working with such a great cast and crew, I knew it would be good, but seeing the final result was still amazing.
3) To be honest, there were no major problems with the broadcasters. Most of their notes and changes were extremely good ideas. Where we did make changes I would have liked not to make, it was always because of budget. However much money (or time!) you have, it’s never enough…
4) I still have some odds and ends from Katrina’s cafe, and the newspaper from the final episode (reporting Hartington’s arrest).
5) The most positive aspect was the sheer amount I learned about both writing and making a TV show. It was an extraordinary opportunity to learn from experts in every field, from producers to costume to stunt arrangers and many more.
6) I’m not really in touch with many of the cast now – we might exchange comments on social media, that’s about it. I am still in touch with most of the other writers, who I worked more closely with, though!
There are no words that can describe how thankful I am. I hope I see some of your new projects in the coming years. I wish you all the best, God bless you!

2. Do you think Maddy ever returned to Stoneybridge, even for a visit and if she did, how do you think Ceri and Gerwyn view her?
3. How do you think the Wolfblood’s secret being exposed affected Maddy, Rhydian and her parents as well as Ceri and Gerwyn? Do you think it had a negative affect on Brynn, where-ever he is in the world?

As I say in the FAQ, I deliberately haven’t made any decisions about what happened after the series, in case there’s a reboot or sequel. If there is, they’ll want to make those decisions themselves. But yes, I think Jana and the others would stay in contact.
So just discovered this show on Amazon Prime. I wished I would’ve felt like I got more time with Mary and Rhydian. Plus we never truly got to see them come into their relationship. The day they go in their first date she leaves. And when they meet back up it’s just quick and not in human form but wolf form. So wished they would reboot this and Mary and Rhydian could be in it and we actually get to see them together as a couple.

Hey Wolfblood really inspired me and to love animals mainly wolves but it has inspired me to be more open minded and joyful about life. I have been a huge fan of Wolfblood ever since it came out and I have probably watched it like a million times. Just over the last two years I have done 4-H and that thought me hard work, and to love anything size, shape and form, but is there going to be a season 6?!.

Hi. I loved the Wolfblood series. So in the episode “Maddy cool”, Kay and Maddy are having a dance off at Kay’s birthday party. The same song is playing when Maddy runs to Kay’s birthday party after being sent to the wrong place because Kay and her friends lied to her. I wish that song was posted somewhere because it sounds so cool and it rocks. Hope you know which song I mean. I tried to explain the best way I could.

If CBBC decides to make a season 6 you should set it a a day before the finale of season 4. But in Canada with Maddy and her parents and see how they cope with there identity being revealed. And if they go back to stonybridge they Jana if she visits Kerry. I don’t know it’s just a thought I just want to see Aimee playing Maddy again.
As pointed out in the FAQ, please don’t send series creators ideas – it’s the fastest way to ensure they legally *can’t* use that idea in the show! Luckily in this case, it doesn’t matter: any new series would have to have a new cast. Most of the original cast are in their late twenties or early thirties now, and CBBC doesn’t make shows about 30-year-olds…
Couldn’t you make them older so they’re the parents. It’s just because I don’t think any could play the roles better than they did if there will be future seasons

Hi Debbie! I’ve had a question on my mind for a bit. I’ve tried to look elsewhere, and I haven’t really found any answer. If you can remember/think back to it, about when did each Wolfblood series takes place, sorta “in universe”? I realize that the season filming was done influences how it looks and possibly what wardrobe is worn for a particular episode, but I’m just trying to figure out about how much time passes during each series and in-between them.
I’m not from the UK, so it’s not immediately obvious to me; based on where I’m from, it looks like it’s always cold and wet! Thank you!
In the north of the U.K., it kind of always *is* cold and wet! 🙂 But more seriously… We didn’t really pin down exactly when each season happened, but I think S1 probably happened in the spring/summer of one year, and S2 in the winter of that year. S3 is the spring/summer of the next year, then, ending with everyone graduating from school. S4 and S5 take place probably over the next six to nine months? So it’s fairly compressed…
You mentioned a couple years back about working on a new Wolfblood series more directed at adults, do you still intend to do that?
I have always been a fan of Wolfblood – even now as an adult, it always has been my FAVOURITE werewolf type series. Better than Teen Wolf, better than Bitten, better than Twilight, and so on.
I know not just me, but lots of people, are hoping for Wolfblood to come back – and if not – then another series more directed at young adults, possibly a movie?
As always, I’m working on a lot of projects, both my own ideas and working on other people’s shows – but no Wolfblood-related projects at the moment!

We didn’t really pin down exactly timescales, but S3 was a school year – eight months or so. And S4 and S5 combined – yes, about a year.

I was rewatching the series for the 7th time (yes I do keep count) and in the first episode to cover up what transpired in the dark room, Maddy states that they were ‘distant cousins’ and yet Tom and Shannon in the first season speculate throughout that they’re dating. Thought this was a bit odd and would like this to be clarified.

Do wolfbloods have the same pregnancy duration as humans? Considering rhydian and byrn seemed to be close in age.

I have a couple of items from the final episode: the newspaper with the story on Hartington’s arrest, and some Kafe coasters.
Basically, everything I know about production came from Wolfblood! The practicalities of shooting, casting, budgets, I learned it all there.
Hi Just wondering since there is still a big fan base for wolf blood even older generation are still interested will there ever be any plans for a new series/movie with the old cast or has that ship completely sailed?
We can never say never, of course – the BBC could decide to revive it any time – but right now, there’s no sign of that happening.
Would the new characters who joined season 4 and 5 still be included regardless of maddy had still stayed for all the seasons of wolfblood ?
It’s hard to say, because we knew who was leaving the show and who wasn’t before we began planning those seasons, but probably not.
